Hatiora gaertneri is a flowering plant in the genus Hatiora from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ) and a hybrid parent of the " Easter Cactus " ( Hatiora × graeseri ). The specific epithet honors gaertneri a native of Germany Dr. Karl F. Gaertner in Blumenau.

Description

Hatiora gaertneri growing shrubby with arching stems and is richly branched. The mostly flat, but occasionally three to six -edged, dull green, often reddish at first drive segments are 4-7 inches long and 2 to 2.5 centimeters wide. The edges are a little below the notched occupied with short, brownish yellow bristles areoles.

The funnel-shaped, dark scarlet petals appear to be 1-3 at the tips of drive segments. They are 4-5 cm long and have diameters from 4 to 7.5 centimeters. The red fruits are elongated.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Hatiora gaertneri is widespread in the Brazilian states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina at altitude 350-1300 meters.

The first description as Epiphyllum russellianum var gaertneri by Eduard August von Regel was published in 1884. Wilhelm Barthlott introduced the variety in 1987 as a way into the genre Hatiora. Synonyms include Phyllocactus gaertneri ( usually ) K.Schum. (1894 ) and Schlumbergera gaertneri ( usually ) Britton & Rose (1913).

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, performed as endangered.
