Háttatal

The Háttatal the Snorra Edda, a list of verse forms, is the fourth part of the Skaldenlehrbuch of Snorri, which originated around 1222 or 1223. Snorri himself wrote this poem consists of 102 verses, in which he presents various versification skaldischer poetry. Therefore, it is considered untranslatable.

The Háttatal is a prosody which Snorri also were annexed a comment or prose text. In addition, the poem

  • An enumeration of all Snorri known or perceived by him as representative Germanic Old Norse verse forms;
  • A prize poem on Snorri's friend Jarl Skúli and the Norwegian king Hákon Hákonarson.

Content, the Háttatal consists of three parts:

  • The first of which ( verse 1-30) King Hákon,
  • The second ( verse 31-67 ) Jarl Skúli and
  • The third ( verse 68-102 ) is devoted to two men.
