Hauterivian

The Hauterivian ( in German language, often shortened to Hauterive ), is in the Earth's history, a chronostratigraphic stage of the Lower Cretaceous. The stage is sufficient geochronological about 133.9 to about 130.7 million years. The Hauterivian following the Valanginian and is detached from the Barremian.

Naming and history

The original eponymous type locality is situated near the village Hauterive in Switzerland and has been named after it. Eugène Renevier led the stage under this name in 1873 in the literature.

Definition and GSSP

The beginning of the stage is defined by the Ersteinsetzen the ammonite genus Acanthodiscus. It ends with the Ersteinsetzen the ammonite species hugii Spitidiscus. The stage is further divided into seven biozones, which are also defined by ammonites. A GSSP (global type locality and type profile ) has not yet been ratified.
