Geography
Hawangen is about five kilometers to the east, halfway between Memmingen and Ottobeuren, in the Danube -Iller region in Upper Swabia.
Expansion of the municipal area
The municipality consists of a part of the district Hawangen (the other part of the district belongs to the municipality Benningen ).
The municipality Hawangen the place Hawangen and a part of the village moss creek forms part ( the other part moss Bach belongs to the municipality laughter).
History
Hawangen belonged to the early possession of the imperial abbey founded in 764 Ottobeuren. With the Imperial Diet of 1803 the city became part of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in the Kingdom of Bavaria was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community that was assigned in 1975 in the course of municipal reform of the newly established administrative community Ottobeuren.
Religions
From the 15th century the Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephan comes in Hawangen.

Coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on September 9, 1982 communication from the Government of Swabia.
Blazon: " Shared by gold and black, the top two diagonally crossed black palm branches below a golden miter with applied rosette. "
The municipality was part of the initial Hawangen founded 764 Benedictine Ottobeuren. Since no other historical relationships of importance to the community can be detected, the gold and black colors of the coat of arms Ottobeurer were selected as primary colors for the coat of arms. The two branches of palm trees are the attributes of St. Stephen, the patron of the parish in Hawangen is. The miter shown in the lower half of the shield shows the typical Ottobeurer crest rosette.
The design of the coat of arms is derived from pin archivist and curator circle Aegidius Kolb and the organization took over the Passau Max Reinhart.
