Haydarpaşa Railway Station, located on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, was next to the Sirkeci station on the European side of the second major train station in Istanbul. The railhead is located inside the port area Haydarpaşa. North of the passenger railway station is the combined freight and ferry terminal. In Haydarpaşa Station on the Turkish railway lines began towards Anatolia, Iran, Iraq and Syria. Since 1930 he was also the starting point of the Taurus Express. Haydarpaşa railway station is an intermediate station of the Bosphorus ferries from Eminönü and Karaköy - Kadıköy - Kadıköy. He also serves as the end point of the eastern line of Banliyö Trenleri.

The station was built as the starting point of the Anatolian Railway and in its continuation of the Baghdad Railway through the company Philipp Holzmann designed by the German architects Otto Ritter von Kuhlmann and Hellmuth Cuno. Construction has started on 30 May 1906, the inauguration took place on 19 August 1908.

On 28 November 2010, there was for repairs to a fire, where the roof and the 4th floor of the station building were destroyed. The roof was then repaired poorly. In connection with the Marmaray project of a tunnel under the Bosphorus, the train station is from 2014, a loss of function. In one part then a museum to be set up. In another part of the hotel is housed with its shopping mall. On February 28, 2012 announced the taz that run since the beginning of February 2012 to the S-Bahn no more trains in the station.

On the seaward side of the station at which to create the ferry in the European part of the city, there is a small memorial steam locomotive.
