Hayne van Ghizeghem

Hayne van Ghizeghem (* around 1445, probably in Gijzegem at Ghent; † before 1497, probably in France ) was a Franco- Flemish composer, poet, singer, and lutenist.

Life

Hayne van Ghizeghem likely to have been born around 1445, probably in the village Gijzegem near Ghent. 1457 is noted in calculations of the Count of Charolais and future Duke Charles the Bold, that 22 écus d'or de gros 48 were paid to Constans de Breuwe Languebroeck that in the period from November 1, 1456 until December 31, 1457 order of Charles had provided for maintenance and the Wardrobe " jeunse fils appele Hayne van Ghizeghem ".

In the 1460s Hayne is active at the Burgundian court. As chantre et valet - chambre ( singer and valet ) he did not belong, as well as his colleague Adrien Basin, however, to the chapel. 1467 recorded the bills payments of 6 sous per day Hayne. However, even in 1468, he received this salary, beyond even 45 livres, 18 sous, because he had to for the war with Liege equip with a carriage. In September 1468 Hayne received his Hofkostüm: it consisted of a long black woolen robe with a doublet of black satin or a short tunic.

By the end of the 1460s Hayne was a famous composer and poet, although his handed down from that time oeuvre probably only the Chanson Amours, amours and De tous biens plaine covers. Presumably, his duties have him so much taken as a courtier claim that he has ever composed very little until about 1475.

On July 6, 1472 it is mentioned that Hayne the retinue of the Duke consulted the besieged at this time Beauvais. Maybe Hayne has been during this campaign with Robert Morton in Cambrai, of which an anonymous chanson (Dijon, MS 517, fol. 155V -156 ) have been reported. In this case, the consecration of the Cathedral on July 5th 1472 might have led to Cambrai. Sure Hayne has living in Cambrai Guillaume Fay hit you on this occasion.

At least until December 9, 1476 Hayne has worked on the farm. He and Adrien Basin have Charles the Bold accompanied on his expedition against Nancy, which ended in disaster for Burgundy and the Duke. Afterwards, Haynes loses track.

Most likely he has lived on so far unknown location for several years. This is supported by the tradition situation of his late works that were copied only in the 1480s and 1490s and all of them come from the environment of the French crown. Probably Hayne had to find employment with the French king, what can be regarded as further evidence that he ups with Alexander Agricola, Johannes Ockeghem and Jehan Fresneau shares whose connection is established to the French royal court.

Before 1497 Hayne died. In the deploration sur la mort d' Ockeghem is reported as Hayne receives the deceased Ockeghem and it sings the motet Ut heremita solus, where he was accompanied on the lute. Again, this is probably not only a literary topos, but a reaction to a long collaboration between the two composers.

Chronology and style

End of the 1460s have been present with security Amours, amours and De tous biens plaine. According to current research situation, the chansons Gentilz gallans were auray n'en Plus, Les grans regrets, De quatre Nuyts, Penser en vous pour ce que j'ay jouy and La Regretée probably composed only in the 1480s and 1490s. It is noticeable that the middle and late works has new features compared to the respective preceding groups, which should certainly speak for the compositional development Haynes.

Haynes Chansons not go beyond the standards of the Burgundian chansons: they are superius - tenor duets that accompanies a countertenor in Bass function. But Hayne developed this model in this type of his compositional skills to such maturity that his songs motet trains accept.

Predominates in initially Hayne interest in the melody. The voices share with each other no melodic material. The rhythms are regularly and easily.

Later Hayne tries to put the voices in relationship to each other. This he achieved through the use of imitation and exchange of common motifs. The voices tend to rhythmic and melodic equivalence.

The most advanced chansons Les grans regrets and La Regretée. In La Regretée is virtually in every bar the main subject detected. Each part of the song begins with almost jointless moderate imitations.

Appreciation

For the first time Hayne is that mentioned by Jean Molinet since 1475 court chronicler of the Burgundian duke. About 1480 leads Nicole de la Chesnaye († 1505) in La condamnacion of bancquetz Chansons De tous biens plaine Haynes and Allez, regretz on. Eloy d' Amerval called Hayne in Le livre de la deablerie (Paris 1508), Pietro Aaron in his Trattato della natura et di tutti gli cognitione Tuoni di canto figurato (Venice 1525). Even in Francois Rabelais novel Haynes has found their work (Book V, Chapter 33): where 180 songs are listed, including by Hayne: Les grands regrets, Ce n'est pas jeu, Amours, amours.

In Pierre Moulus motet Mater floreat florescat Hayne is celebrated together with Jacob Obrecht, Loyset Compère and Pierre de la Rue.

Chanson De tous biens plaine Haynes has supplied dozens of compositions the cantus firmus. One of the earliest compositions should Loyset Comperes motet Omnium bonorum plena be that is certainly incurred prior to 1474.
