HBG2

  • OMIM: 142250

Hemoglobin subunit gamma -2 is a protein, for encoding the known human HBG2 gene.

Function

The gamma globin genes ( HBG1 and HBG2 ) usually manifest themselves in the fetal liver, spleen and bone marrow. Two gamma chains together with two alpha chains fetal hemoglobin ( HbF ), which is at birth normally replaced by adult hemoglobin ( HbA ). In some beta- thalassemias and related conditions, the production of gamma chains continues even in adulthood. The two types of gamma chains differ at amino acid 136, where you will find at the G- gamma production ( HBG2 ) glycine and in the A- gamma production ( HBG1 ) alanine. The former is predominant at birth. The order of the genes in the beta -globin cluster is: 5 ' - ε - γ -G - γ -A - δ - β - 3'.
