HD 162020 is a 30 parsecs (100 light years) from Earth distant star of spectral type K3 like with an apparent brightness of 9.1. The star has about three quarters of the mass of our sun.

The star is surrounded by a low-mass spectroscopic companion, in which it could be a red dwarf or a brown dwarf. The property has a minimum mass of 14 Jupiter masses and an orbital period of 8.4 days.
