Together with He Yi and Huang Shao he occupied the city Runan, which was soon plundered by Cao Cao. Cao Cao's bodyguard Dian Wei killed He Yi's sub commanders in battle and drove the Yellow Turbans from the city. The next day, Huang Shao took command, and He was offered with his iron stick to a duel. He is said to have shouted: "I am He Man, the devil, who shoots across the sky. Who takes on the fight with me? " Cao Hong took on the challenge, but in their duel, there was no decision until He Man fell for Cao Hong's alleged retreat and was killed instantaneously by him.
