Health insurance premium index

The health insurance premium index ( HIPI ) captures the evolution of premiums for compulsory health care insurance and health insurance and is the weighted average of the two sub-indices. Based on the HIPI the impact of premium growth on the growth of household gross disposable income estimate.

The HIPI is created in Switzerland by the Federal Office for Social Security ( for basic insurance ) and the Federal Statistical Office ( for the field of riders).

Legal foundations

The legal basis of the health insurance premium index, the Federal Law of 9 October 1992 ( Federal Statistics Law ) and the Regulation of 30 June 1993 on the implementation of statistical surveys of the Federal (Statistics Collection Regulation ).

Type of survey

The HIPI by means of a sample survey, which is conducted online ( via email ) detected. Participation in the survey is mandatory.
