Heaphy River

The Heaphy River is a 33 km long river in the northwest of the South Island of New Zealand. The river rises in the Domett Range and flows through the Kahurangi National Park, before it flows into the Tasman Sea in the west between Heaphy Heaphy Bluff and Beach.

The Heaphy River was, as well as the 78.4 km long Heaphy Track, which started the river from the estuary upstream accompanied at 11 km, named after the englischgebürtigen New Zealand painter, soldier and explorer Charles Heaphy.

The river is known among anglers for its brown trout ( trout ).
