Hear, hear

The name and the exclamation Hear, hear (of English. Hear ) is used as a short form of " hear him, hear him" as the consent of the listener to a pre- assigned point or topic. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term " Hear, hear" is to be regarded as the correct form of applause and jubilation in the House of Commons, where such ( heckling, applause ), unlike in the parliaments of many other countries, is prohibited.

Hear him, hear him already since the late 17th century use was in Parliament and was shortened to hear the shape Hear since the late 18th century. The cry is often wrongly understood as here, here or spelled.
