Hearst Island

The Hearst Island (English Hearst Iceland, Argentina and Chile Isla Hearst called ) is one of the Antarctic Peninsula upstream uninhabited island in the Weddell Sea.
Geography
The Hearst Island lies off the coast of the Wilkins Ice Shelf Larsen Palmer land in about six kilometers east of Cape Rymill, from which it is separated by the places only five kilometers wide Stefansson Sound. Their shape is arcuate, with a length of 60 km, it is 11 km wide. The island is covered by an ice cap which reaches up to 365 m altitude.
History
The Hearst Island was sighted on 20 December 1928 by Hubert Wilkins from the plane. He thought she was a part of the Antarctic mainland and named it Hearst country after the financier of the expedition, the U.S. media tycoon William Randolph Hearst. Only the United States Antarctic Service Expedition 1939-1941 under the direction of Richard Evelyn Byrd introduced in 1940 the island character fixed.
