Heartland-Virus

The Heartland virus ( HRTV ) is an enveloped RNA virus that has been provisionally assigned to the genus Phlebovirus within the family Bunyaviridae. The Heartland virus is an arbovirus transmitted by ticks.

Properties

The Heartland virus was first discovered in St. Joseph, Missouri in 2009 in the northwestern Missouri by Scott Folk at Heartland Regional Medical Center and described. The determined at two farmers in June 2009, symptoms were fever, fatigue, diarrhea and lack of white blood cells ( leukopenia ) and platelets ( thrombocytopenia ). First Ehrlichia chaffeensis was suspected as a symptom cause, but treatment with doxycycline did not hit and Ehrlichia could not be detected. The search for a virus was then successful.

In a study by the CDC of 56,000 gathered on the spot ticks the virus in 10 specimens was detected. A recently discovered in China, SFTSV (severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome ) said virus from the family of bunyaviruses causes a similar disease.
