Description

Recordings

The recordings were made between late 2001 - early 2002, and it is the first Oasis studio album, which was recorded with the new members, bassist Andy Bell and guitarist Gem Archer. Bell and Archer controlled depending on a song, Liam Gallagher wrote three, so that this album is finally the end of Noel Gallagher's artistic autocracy marked. Liam wrote already for the previous album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants the song Little James. This trend was continued on the next album Do not Believe the Truth, came on less than half of the songs from Noel Gallagher's spring. Also, listen to the last time the longtime drummer Alan White, who was thrown out of the band due to lack of readiness for shooting in 2004.

Outcouplings

All four of the coupled Singles engaged in the Top 3 of the British charts: The Hindu Times, her sixth number one in the UK, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, the anthem of the BBC for the resignation of the English national football team from the 2002 World Cup, the double A-side Little by Little / She Is Love - both sung by Noel - and Songbird, the first written by Liam single. An excerpt of the song Hung in a Bad Place has been used for television commercials of lingerie line Victoria 's Secret in the USA.

Sound

At the sound of the album Oasis returned to their roots. After the two musically strong overloaded albums Be Here Now and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, the band strove for a simple structured sound. The guitars sound Oasis typical loud and catchy, but are not such over present as on the recordings in 1997. There are short, played on acoustic guitar pieces ( Songbird, She Is Love ), the stadium rock anthems ( Little by Little, Stop tried Crying Your Heart Out ), three- chord rockers (The Hindu Times, Hung in a Bad Place) and more experimental songs on which the band unusual song structures (Born on a Different Cloud) and rhythms ( Better Man, A Quick Peep ).

Reviews

The trade press gave no uniform evaluation. The basic tenor is that this album is better than its two predecessors, but the views are, whether it is consider a high-class or a rather mediocre album, different. Singles like Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Liam Gallagher's posts like Songbird have been consistently praised, but the album was certified lack of quality in comparison with earlier works. The most common criticisms were the lack of innovation, the rigid schemas and store the old song production. This judgment is now also a part of the trailer spread, even though the album seemed to revive the fan euphoria particularly in the UK and Italy, and was able to record strong sales figures. Noel Gallagher 's self-titled album of his time as one of his best, although he remarked that the band musically not there yet stood where he introduced himself.

Leak

All 11 songs on the album were already appeared on the Internet three months before publication. The final versions of the song Little by Little and Better Man, however, differed slightly from the versions launched.

Naming

The album's title was inspired by a T- shirt that said " The Society of Heathen Chemists " which Noel bought in Ibiza. Similarly, the song The Hindu Times got its name: Noel saw a corresponding logo on a t-shirt during photo shoot for the " 100 Greatest Guitarists " issue of GQ magazine. Originally, the track was an instrumental piece; all instrumental pieces of the recordings were made in lieu of ordering designations such as Instrumental 1 and so on proper names.
