Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau

Hector de Saint- Denys Garneau ( born June 13, 1912 in Montreal, † October 24, 1943 in Sainte -Catherine -de- la -Jacques -Cartier / Quebec ) was a Canadian poet and essayist.

The great-grandson of the historian François -Xavier Garneau, grandson of poet Alfred Garneau, and cousin of the poet and novelist Anne Hébert grew up on the country estate of his family in Ste -Catherine -de- Fossambault. In 1923 he came with his parents to Montreal, where he visited various Jesuit College and took painting classes at the Collège des beaux -arts.

Garneau's lyrical talent was recognized early, and he has already received in the late 1920s several literary awards, including 1928 by the Association des auteurs canadiens. He has published articles in various journals and founded with Paul Beaulieu, Robert Charbonneau and Robert Élie the journal La relève.

1934 made ​​him a rheumatic disorders of heart disease, break off his studies, and in the following three years, he resigned himself to publish poems, reviews and essays in the La relève and other magazines. In 1937 he published a collection of his poems in the volume Regards et jeux dans l' espace.
