Assessment

The artistic character of their presentation was a healthy, cheerful and beautiful realism; aptly she has in her early years, called a " representative of the Backfischtums in its ideal transfiguration " while they then especially in all the female characters of modern French repertoire made extraordinary. The critic Georg Brandes listed at the Berlin premiere of Ibsen's Nora in 1880:

" The Niemann- Raabe has more natural conditions to represent Nora's naive phase than any actress in the north. Despite her forty years she has not only a ravishing exterior and an infinitely expressive face, but seems overloaded with electrical energy. Where she goes and stands, lights and spray youth, life and love of life. She was irresistible, of course, as long as she was a child. "

Trivia

Like any actress who Raabe had many admirers, among them the young Friedrich Nietzsche, who addressed an enthusiastic letter to her in June 1866; but his enthusiasm apparently met with no reciprocal love. Wilhelm Weischedel writes:. " On another occasion he says from afar for an actress and sends her specially for them, sealed and composed songs into the house, a response he is certainly, as far as we know, is not appreciated "
