Hegge stave church
Hegge Stave Church (Norwegian Hegge stavkirke ) dates from the 13th century and is in Hegge in Øystre Slidre in Oppland.
History
The church was first mentioned in writing in 1327, but the building is older. Dendrochronological investigations revealed that the wood was like in 1216.
Architecture
Only the central building of the church has been preserved. The roof structure is not visible in the interior, as at a later time, a ceiling was installed. The lower ends of Eckmasten are designed as a carved vegetable loops at the upper ends, there are carved masks - one among others with only one eye, maybe here is Odin presented.
The west portal is flanked by two columns supporting the Lions.
Other
Around the church there is a cemetery. A few meters next to the church is a small bell tower.
