Heidelberg (Victoria)
Heidelberg, Victoria, a formerly independent municipality, is a suburb of the capital of the Australian state of Victoria Melbourne. It covers 2.7 km ² and is located 14 km northeast of the city center of Melbourne. On 15 December 1994, the largest part of Heidelberg City with the Eltham Shire was affiliated to the Association of Local Authorities Banyule City.
By Heidelberg flows an arm of the Yarra River, just before its confluence with the Port Phillip Bay. Neighboring towns are West Heidelberg and Heidelberg Heights.
The place name is for Australians especially with the Heidelberg School (including the painter Charles Edward Conder (24 October 1868 - February 9, 1909 ), Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin ), an Australian art movement of the 19th century, connected.
History
The land in and around Heidelberg in 1838 auctioned in a land auction by the British crown. There was one of the first agricultural centers. Until the 1840s it was the place name Warringal (' eagle's nest' in the local language of the Australian aborigines ) and was renamed in 1840 by a real estate dealer, who came from the German Heidelberg, Heidelberg. 1871 Heidelberg became the Shire, on April 11, 1934 City ( 'city' ).
The Town House ( Heidelberg Town Hall, Town Hall) was built in 1937. The settlement crystallized along the Heidelberg Road and the railway line Melbourne - Hurstbridge. Along the north- east axis are Darebin, Ivanhoe, Eaglemont, Rosanna, Macleod, Watsonia and Greensborough. Heidelberg West served in 1956 as part of the Olympic Village at the Summer Games in Melbourne.

Infrastructure
The Austin and Repatriation Hospital stands in Heidelberg. Part of it is the Mercy Women's Hospital. Together, they form the largest hospital in Victoria.
Heidelberg Train Station is on the collective boundary between zone 1 and 2 within the Melbourne train system.
The shopping center Burgundy Street was reopened after a bankruptcy in the 1980s. Especially its cafes are a regional attraction.
