Heiko Balz

Heiko Balz ( born September 17, 1969 in Burg (near Magdeburg ) ) is a former German wrestler.

Career

Heiko courtship began as a teenager in 1976 in Potsdam with the rings. Because of its good prospects he was delegated in 1983 at the Children's and Youth Sports School to Luckenwalde. There he was trained in the SG Dynamo Luckenwalde or 1 Luckenwalder SC of different trainers to freestyle wrestler. Already in 1987 he began his international career wrestler with a start at the Junior World Championships in Katowice. There he finished second in the class to 88 kg of body weight on the 9th place, but the very next year he came at the Junior European Championships in Walbrzych / Poland on the 3rd place and he was in Ulan Bator even junior world champion in 1989.

In 1990 he competed at the European Championships in Poznan for the first time in the senior and missed with a 4th place only just a medal by losing to the eventual champions Arawat Sabejew from the Soviet Union, against which he had performed 10 seconds before the end of the fight. In the battle for third place was defeated Mahmut Demir from Turkey. At the World Championships the same year in Tokyo, the GDR started the last time as an independent team. Heiko courtship was back in the heavyweight division at the start, but could not because of an early defeat against Demir among the top ten wrestler of his weight class.

In the next seven international championships in which he took part, he always won a medal. In 1991 it was the Bronze both at the European Championships in Stuttgart as well as at the World Championships in Varna. In 1992 it was at the European Championships in Kaposvar the silver medal and also at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​he won the silver medal. In 1994 he became vice European champion in Rome, where he lost in the final battle with a score of 2:2 by judges decision against Marek Garmulewicz from Poland. In his first fight he shouldered pool at this championship David Musulbes from Russia. In the fall of 1994 Sabejew launched at the World Championships and was promptly World Champion.
