Heiner Dopp

Heiner Dopp (* June 27, 1956 in Bad Durkheim ) is a former German hockey player and three -time Olympian. He played a total of 286 times for the German national hockey team.

Career

The attack player Heiner Dopp began his career at Dürkheimer HC, but then switched to Turngemeinde Frankenthal. With Frankenthal he won eight German championship title; 1979, 1980 and 1983, he was champion in field hockey, from 1980 to 1984 won Frankenthal five consecutive championship in indoor hockey. 1984 won the TG Frankenthal the European Champions Cup.

In 1975, debuted at the pre-Olympic tournament Dopp in the national team. The German team won the tournament. At the Olympic Games in 1976, the German team finished fifth. After a fourth place at the 1978 World Cup the team won in the same year at the European Championships in Hannover the title. After winning the third European Indoor Championship title 1980 Olympics boycott in 1980 was a major setback in the track record of the German Hockey Federation.

At the World Cup 1981/1982 in Bombay, the German team reached the finals and defeated the Pakistani selection with 1:3 there. After bronze at the European Championships in 1983 and the European Indoor Championship title in 1984 Heiner Dopp took in the summer of 1984 for the second time in the Olympic Games in part. In the finale of Los Angeles, the German team was again against the team of Pakistan. After the regular season ended with 1:1, Pakistan succeeded in extra time 2-1.

At the World Championships in London in 1986 the German team won the bronze medal, just like a year later at the European Championships. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the German team in the preliminary round group B won, beating the team of Great Britain 2-1. In the final, the two teams were again compared and the British were victorious 3-1, the German goal in the final scoring Heiner Dopp. After Dopp ended his career as a most-capped player, he was then eight years later surpassed by Volker Fried.

As a coach Heiner Dopp led the Dürkheimer HC to the German championship and won the European Cup Winners' Cup. He is currently a regional trainer for hockey. The trained winemaker lives in Meckenheim. Since 1999 he is honorary mayor of the landscape of home for the CDU community.
