Heinrich Seilkopf

Andreas Heinrich Karl Seilkopf (born 25 December 1895 in Frankfurt ( Oder), † June 27, 1968 in Hamburg ) was a German meteorologist and professor.

Life

From March 1916 to March 1919 he was a research assistant at the weather service office in Berlin and beyond. Till the end of scientific assistant at the Meteorological Observatory food

From 1920 to March 1946 he was a meteorologist at the German Naval Observatory. 1927 was a lecturer and assistant at the Meteorological waiting Hannover, since May 1929 as Councillor. After a short time as head of the aviation weather waiting Hanover he established the Ocean Air Unit of the German Naval Observatory. As of March 1930, he was on the flight weather station Hamburg. In June 1931 he was A.O. Professor Technical University of Hannover, since 1940 also professor of Seeflugmeteorologie at the University of Hamburg. In 1939 he had discovered the jet stream. In 1941, he was Director of the maritime weather of the German Weather Service in Hamburg- Nienstedten. The cable head peaks in the Arctic Borg Massif in Queen Maud Land are named after him.

He was also interested in ornithology.
