Heinrich von Zügel

Heinrich Johann von Rein ( born October 22, 1850 in Murrhardt; † January 30, 1941 in Munich) was a German painter. Known are its partly opulent depictions of domestic animals, which were also presented at the Great German Art Exhibition.

Life

Reins was formed in 1869 at the Stuttgart Art School as a student of Bernhard von Neher and Heinrich von Rustige to the genre and animal painter, stayed some time in Vienna in 1873 and then took up his residence in Munich. It preferably painted representations of farm and domestic animals in connection with people, sometimes in a dramatic situation or pointed in a humorous view.

The animal painter Anton Braith from Biberach was an important mentor for the student.

In the early 1880s discovered the reins moor at Dachau as a new field of study. He began to paint outdoors. Thus he moved away from the near vision and put the animals as part of a broader landscape area dar.

Study at the Dutch and Belgian coast brought the artist the early 1890s the breakthrough to Impressionism, whose famous representatives he had met on previous visits Paris and exhibitions in Munich. The atmospheric playback of animals in air and light, capturing the reflections of the sun and water, the play of light and shadow is now the artistic concerns. The details are increasingly subordinated to the overall impression.

1895 Rein was appointed as professor at the Munich Academy of Art. In this position he remained until his retirement in 1922. Among his pupils include Otto Dill, Emanuel Hegenbarth, Julius Paul Junghanns, Christian Schad, William Stumpf and Philip Erlanger. Reins is a founding member of the Munich Secession.

More than forty years working reins to the theme of " Heavy Work", depicting a plowing oxen. At about 24 versions of the subject, the development of the painter can be read, the results of the detailed description of a Cubist reduction and monumentality. He chose last huge formats, in order to give expression to his perception of the connection between man and nature, the eternal cycle of all life, by this motif.

Even in old age reach bridle impressionistic works full of lightness and freshness, for example, the "look at Murrhardt ," 77 -year-old was still an impressive self-portrait.

Heinrich von reins heard with Lovis Corinth, Max Liebermann and Max Slevogt an important German Impressionists. As a founding member of the Munich Secession, he campaigned for a renewal of the exhibition business. For 25 years he was a professor and rector of the temporary Munich Academy.

In Wörth am Rhein there's a memory gallery as a permanent exhibition in the Old City Hall. Reins has a special significance, as it with his students long time spent his holidays and numerous works were created on the spot for Wörth am Rhein. The small revenue through the modeling, the loan of the animals and the hospitality revenues were for the poor inhabitants, small farmers and fishermen, important. Other works hang in the National Gallery in Berlin as well as in his native Murrhardt.

His first-born son, Willy reins, was a well-known animal sculptor.

Domestic and farm animals in their rural surroundings are his subjects, along with isolated pure landscapes, cityscapes and portraits.

Awards and honors

Heinrich von reins in 1910 was awarded an honorary citizen of the City Wörth am Rhein and in 1920 an honorary citizen of the city Murrhardt.
