Heinz Ehlers

Heinz Ehlers ( born January 25, 1966 in Aalborg ) is a Danish former ice hockey player and current coach. Since 2013 he has been head coach at Lausanne HC in the National League A. His sons Sebastian Ehlers and Nikolaj Ehlers are also professional hockey players.

Career

As a player

Heinz Ehlers began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at AaB Ishockey for which he first described in 1981 in the highest Danish league was on the ice. NHL Entry Draft 1984, the attacker than a total of 188 players in the ninth round was selected by the New York Rangers, but moved to North America but not in the Swedish Elitserien, where he played for five years for Leksand IF, with whom he in the 1988/89 season was runner-up. Then the Dane signed a contract with league rivals AIK Solna, for which he spent two more seasons in the Elitserien 1989-1991. With the second division Rögle BK striker managed in the 1991/92 season promotion to the Elitserien, but eventually returned after a year of excellence for his hometown club AaB Ishockey back.

During the current season 1993/94 to Ehlers joined the EHC Biel from Swiss National League A, however, changed the end of the season to Austria for EC KAC. In this he remained one and a half years before he joined at the beginning of the 1995/96 season the Augsburger Panther of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, for which he spent two years active in the German top flight. From 1997 to 2002, the Dane was a regular player at the Berlin Capitals, which he then left in the direction of Aalborg, where he ended his active career in 2004 at his home club.

Internationally

With the Danish national Heinz Ehlers denied the C World Championships 1987, 1990 and 1991 and the B World Championships in 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998 and 1999. A total of 61 World Cup matches, the striker scored 45 goals and 72 assists.

As a coach

After his career end Heinz Ehlers took over in 2005 as coach of his last club as a player, at AaB Ishockey. Already in the first season as head coach was the Dane with AaB runner-up, after the team in the final SønderjyskE Ishockey defeated with 2:4 games. After he was able to repeat this success in the following year, Ehlers moved to Switzerland, where he took over as coach of EHC Biel and this season 2007/ 08 resulted in the first-class National League A. After the club was in danger of failing in the play -out of the 2008/09 season, the Dane during the current Relegation Round, the so-called League qualification was released in April 2009 and replaced by Kent Ruhnke.

As of November 2009 stood at Ehlers NLB participant SC Langenthal behind the band and won the championship in 2012 with this in the National League B. In season 2013/14 he accepted an offer of NLA - climber Lausanne HC. In the season 2013/14 was achieved with the Lake Geneva Region sensational qualifying for the playoffs. In the playoff quarter-finals of the geek subject to the sovereign qualification winner ZSC Lions only in the decisive seventh game of the series with 3:4 victories and missed only just one more surprise.
