Heinz Hemrich

Heinz Hemrich (* 1923 in Schwäbisch Hall, † December 8, 2009 ) was a German sculptor.

Life

Hemrich studied by military service and captivity from 1942 to 1945 1946 to 1951 at the Art School Mainz, Stuttgart Art Academy and the Arts and Crafts School in Darmstadt. From 1951 to 1953 he was an assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt and freelance sculptor since 1953. In 1963 he accepted a teaching position at the State Academy of Art and Handicraft Education Mainz, since 1973, he worked as a lecturer and later as a professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the Department of Art Education. Hemrich was since 1957 a member of the Darmstadt Secession and participated in several exhibitions of the Secession in Darmstadt

Work

Hemrich has executed numerous commissions for public buildings, universities, churches and schools. Focus of his activities were " Kunst am Bau " and small sculptural works. Among other things he created for the Baptistry of Johannes Gutenberg, the St. Christopher 's Church in Mainz, receive their ruin and was 1963/64, expanded, a new buttress of concrete with symbolic representations of the history of the city of Mainz. For the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection in Mainz, he took on a late medieval motif of the picture bible and redesigned it as a concrete frieze.
