Heinz Patzig

Heinz Patzig ( born September 19, 1929 in Chemnitz, † March 28, 2013 in Braunschweig ) was a German football player and coach. He graduated for VfB Lübeck and Eintracht Braunschweig total of 247 games in the first-class Oberliga Nord and has long served as assistant coach of Eintracht. His greatest success as an assistant coach was winning the German soccer championship 1967.

Career as a player

In his hometown Chemnitz Heinz Patzig played until 1950. He graduated there a few games for PSV Chemnitz and 1948-1950 for Fewa Chemnitz. He then fled from East Germany to West Germany and went to VfB Lübeck. For Lübeck played the force as strong in the offensive left wing four years in the Oberliga Nord and the amateur league of Schleswig- Holstein. In 59 league games Dittes scored 17 goals and was appointed for a game in the North German football team. In the game against the southwest German national team Dittes showed a good performance, which is why he was persuaded by the North German team coach Edmund Conen to continue to play at Eintracht Braunschweig.

When Eintracht Dittes came from 1955 and 1961 a total of 188 league inserts and three inserts in the finals of the German Cup. He developed after his move to Eintracht fast team regular and was further appointed to various national teams, such as in the Lower Saxon football team. After a knee injury in 1961 Dittes came only rarely to league operations and ended his career at the age of 31.

Career as a coach

Apart from a few games where he worked at Eintracht Braunschweig as head coach, Heinz Patzig worked mainly as an assistant coach. Shortly after the end of his active career, he took up his position as assistant coach and won together with Helmuth Johannsen 1967, the German championship. A total of 27 seasons Dittes served as assistant coach of Eintracht, while he worked with, among others, Otto Knefler, Branko Zebec, Werner Olk and Heinz Lucas. Four times took Dittes the team also as interim coach. In 1991, he was replaced by Uwe Kliemann.
