Heinz Schaden

Heinz Schaden ( born April 29, 1954 in Graz) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ) and the current mayor of the city of Salzburg.

Life

Heinz Schaden was born on 29 April 1954 in Graz. He studied in Salzburg political science, journalism and economic history and his doctorate at the Paris Lodron University in 1981 as a doctor of philosophy. Then he studied until 1985 in Vienna - including at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna - and graduated with a diploma. He then worked until 1987 in the Ministry of Construction and became active in politics.

Damage is married and has a grown daughter from his first marriage.

Policy

In 1992, damage was Vice Mayor of Salzburg before 1999 he became the first directly elected mayor of Salzburg on 30 April. He was able to win on the second ballot in the ballot. In the mayoral election on 7 March 2004, he was confirmed with 51.96 % in the first round in his office. In the subsequent election on March 1, 2009, he suffered as SPÖ leadership candidate in the municipal elections in significant losses ( 35.79 % instead of 43.78 % in 2004 ) and failed with 45.37 % of the vote, the election for mayor on the first ballot. But in the runoff he could barely prevail against his opponent Harald Preuner (ÖVP ) with 53.71 %.

In addition to his duties as mayor, he served as chairman of the SPÖ also in the city of Salzburg and member of the Federal Executive. On October 18, 2013, he resigned from all party posts, citing " some serious substantive problems " with the line of the SPÖ.

Others

Since 19 August 2002 Property was awarded the Portuguese Order of Merit. This was awarded to him in the form of the Grand Cross.

Heinz Schaden was among the passengers on the Costa Concordia when it crashed on January 13, 2012 off the island of Giglio.
