Hel (band)

Hel was a Swedish Viking rock band whose name is derived from the Norse goddess Hel.

History

The band Hel was founded by former musicians of the band Völund Smed. Due to various assertions, it would be a racist band, they broke up. The band Hel led the musical concept Völund Smeds with the difference that the song has now been taken over by two women, on. The band released four albums in Ultima Thule Records and was represented at numerous Viking rock samplers. After the bombing of Ultima Thule Studio Valhalla published Hel with Ultima Thule CD together eld och aska genome (German: Fire and ash). Late 2004/early 2005, the band was finally dissolved again to act in the old cast again as Völund Smed.

Musical features

Just like their predecessors of Völund Smed, the band is assigned to the Viking rock. Due to the distinctive two -part female vocals reminiscent of ABBA, the band, however, borders on the other Viking rock bands. Hel linked musical elements of metal and punk. The majority of the songs is characterized by rapid drumming and simple, but very catchy melodies. Furthermore, there are also some soulful ballads accompanied by acoustic guitars. In addition to the classical instruments is in some songs the violin as an accompanying instrument to advantage. This was briefly introduced by Cia Hedmark, which recently joined the band of the band Otyg.

Textual features

The lyrics are noisy band of life, death, morality and ethics. But the thoughts they have about Swedish society, will be addressed in some songs. There are both positive and negative things mentioned (eg politicians who hide from the real problems ). However, many lyrics are written like fairy tales or legends.
