Helen Elliot

Helen Elliot, married Hamilton ( born January 20, 1927 in Edinburgh, † 12 January 2013) was a Scottish table tennis player, the 1949 and 1950 world champion in doubles.

Career

At the age of 16 years, Helen Elliot began with the table tennis sport. It developed rapidly for top player in Scotland. From 1945 to 1958 she won 13 times in a row in the individual event of the Open Championship of Scotland.

From 1947 to 1957 she was nominated for nine world championships. She reached in individual 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1952 respectively the quarterfinals. In 1948 she reached the Hungarian Dora Beregi the double - final, which was lost against the Englishwomen Margaret Franks / Vera Thomas. A year later she won the Hungarian Gizella Farkas the doubles title, which she defended in 1950 with her ​​former partner Dora Beregi. Another time she took silver in 1955 in the Mixed with Aubrey Simons ( England). There were also three bronze medals, namely in 1952 in a double with Ermelinde Wertl ( Austria ) and in 1957 in a double with Mary Golopenta -Alexandru and mixed with the Czechs Ludvik Vyhnanovský.

1955 Elliot was student world champion in doubles together with Angelica Rozeanu. At the European Championships in 1958 she reached the quarterfinals in singles and in doubles.

In the ITTF World Ranking Elliot was found from 1947 to 1957 mostly in the top ten. 1947/48 she was out in fifth.

Owing to its success, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Scottish Sports 2001.

Around 2000, she was President of the Scottish Table Tennis Association and later honorary president.
