Helena Roerich

Helena Roerich ( Elena Ivanovna Roerich actually, born Shaposhnikova, Russian Елена Ивановна Рёрих or Шапошникова; * 31 Januarjul / February 12 1879greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † October 5, 1955 in Kalimpong, India) was a Russian writer who published in English.

She was a great-granddaughter of Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov and the niece of the composer Modest Mussorgsky.

She married on 28 October 1901 Russian artists, scientists and Asia expert Nicholas Roerich. After the Russian Revolution in 1920 they went to London to New York for Nicholas first exhibition in the United States. Helena Blavatsky translated book The Secret Doctrine into Russian.

Later it was converted to Buddhism. She was in his own words of their spiritual leaders, the Masters of Wisdom, the writings of the Agni Yoga ( Western designation: Living Ethics ) transmitted.

Their eldest son, Yuri (1902-1960) was a well-known Asia watchers. The younger son Sviatoslav was a painter. Helena Roerich lived after 1923 in the Indian Kullu Valley.
