Helena Suková

Helena Suková ( born February 23, 1965 in Prague, then Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak tennis player.

She was born into a prominent tennis family, her mother was a former Věra known tennis player and her father Cyril Suk was president of the Czechoslovak Tennis Association. Her brother Cyril was also tennis players, with whom she won three times the mixed tournament at Wimbledon and at the French Open.

In her career she stood twice in the women's final of the Australian Open ( 1984, 1989) and twice at the U.S. Open (1986, 1993). She won ten WTA Tournaments. A Grand Slam singles titles to her was denied. Therefore, it was often referred to as " Best player that never won a Grand Slam tournament " means. Her biggest success was the victory over Martina Navratilova in the semifinals of the Australian Open in 1984, where she stopped Navratilova winning streak of 74 matches in a row and was inferior only in the finale Chris Evert. In 1987 she was in Eastbourne only the fourth player, who succeeded Navratilova and Evert in a tournament defeat, while she finished Navratilova series of 69 consecutive wins on grass. At the U.S. Open in 1993, she defeated Martina Navratilova again on the way to their fourth and final Grand Slam final, where she lost to Steffi Graf.

Double it was successful in this regard. She won a total of nine Grand Slam tournaments, including with Claudia Kohde - Kilsch. With Jana Novotná, she won the silver medal at each Olympic Games in 1988 and 1996.

Helena Suková won in her career ten individual titles and 69 doubles titles. Her career, she finished in 1998.
