Hemming and seaming

As envelope is called the doubling of the edge of a sheet metal part by folding or pivoting bending. Sense the envelope is to increase the rigidity of the sheet, particularly in thin sheets. Moreover, the envelope is formed by a rounded edge, which reduces the risk of injury (cutting ) on the otherwise sharp edge, such as lockers or drawers.

The cover is also referred to as duplication or rabbet.
