Hendrick van den Broeck

Hendrick van den Broeck (* 1519 in Mechelen, † September 28, 1597, also: Arrigo Fiammingo, Henricus de Palude, Paludanus Henricus, Henricus Malines ) was a Flemish painter and engraver.

Life

Van den Broeck was the son of the painter Jan van den Broeck, who probably him and his two brothers Willem and Crispin trained first.

Like his brother, he began crisping first in the studio of Frans Floris. Around 1550 he went to Rome and worked probably with Giorgio Vasari. From 1561 we hear of him in different Italian cities. But his focus was in Perugia, where he is a portrait of the Magi is attributed in the Church of the Holy Franziscus and a window in the cathedral.

1564, he signed a contract with Niccolò Circignani ( il Pomarancio ) for the design of the cathedral of Orvieto. But he himself went to Rome probably because from 1565 to 1572, he renewed with Matteo Perez d' Aleccio (also: Matheo da Lecce) the frescoes in the entrance area of the Sistine chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore ..

He also acted in the painting of the Sistine Chapel where he has the figures Esrom, Aram, Aminabad and Naassom painted. Also, the fresco of the Last Judgment is attributed to him.

Catherina de Palude († 1592) was his daughter.
