Geography

Hengsberg lies south of Graz at the foothills of the Buchkogel in Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria.

History

The first mention was made in the year 892 ( Hengistfeldon ). 1045 gave king Henry III. Archbishop Baldwin the royal Kammergut Head village on the Laßnitz, located in the Margraviate of Godfrey and forestry Sausal ( Predium quale visi sumus Liutoldasdorf habere, in Comitatu Gotefridi marchionis et foresto Susel iuxta litus Losnicae Fluminis Situm ).

The name " Schrödinger tablets " is a slash ( MHG shot " cut piece, Klotz ," even as a collective term used for stumps; MHG grind " (ab) hew, (ab) cut") is derived.

The abolition of the manorial system was carried out in 1848, the local church as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938 the congregation to Reichsgau Styria came from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Since 2009, the municipality together with the communities of Long, Lebring -St. Margaret, Stocking, Wildon and Weitendorf the micro-region cultural park Hengist.

Religions

Hengsberg was an original parish for about the first half of the 9th century. , Mother parish since about the 13th century. with the parishes Wundschuh, Wildon, Preding, Lang and St. Margaret. The area of the parish Hengsberg today includes all settlements of the municipality Hengsberg and Lichen village in the municipality wide and Lamberg village in the municipality Zwaring - Pöls.

Following the establishment of the Protestant cemetery and the construction of a dead house with bell tower it came to the establishment of the Protestant Christ chapel and its inauguration on June 5, 1933.

Policy

Following the resignation of longtime mayor Robert Baumann was by the municipal council on 15 February 2007 Johann Mayer ( ÖVP) elected as the new mayor. The council is made up after the elections of 2010 are as follows: 9 ÖVP, SPÖ 5, 1 Freedom Party

Coat of arms

The coat of arms, a golden shield on green in three mountain rising black stallion, was awarded to the community on September 11, 1961.

Museums

In 1976, the parish remains of the castle foundations and a tomb were discovered during the renovation. These finds are exhibited together with others from the surrounding area ( Roman period ) in which located under the church Hengistburg Museum.

Nature reserve

The wooded area on the Buchkogel the boundary of the Murfeldes and Leibnitzer field in the communities Wildon, Lebring -St. Margaret, Lang and Hengsberg was declared a " nature reserve Wildon Buchkogel ". Thus, the semi-natural beech forests and the species- rich plant occurrence of this area should be protected. These plants include beech, wolf Eisenhut, big-leaf, narrow leaf and purple helleborine, lily of the valley, Alpenzyklame, Illyrian crocus, daphne, helleborine, dog tooth violet, hedge hellebore, Spring snowflake, Turk's cap lily, large two- sheet, bird nest orchid, white butterfly orchid, natural primrose, wood - violet, violet grove.

Structures

  • The parish church of St. Lawrence is a ring surrounded by the wall of the former cemetery and has a powerful, four-storey tower with the considerable height of 72 meters. The square tower with spire has five bells, which were acquired in 1924.

Traffic

The municipality is crossed by the Schrödinger tablets road (L 601), due to the strong frequency this is accompanied by a Rad-/Gehweg. The Phyrn motorway A 9 is tangent to the community in the northeast, mid- connection point and from the direction of Graz on Kehlberg is planned. The municipality is situated on the already opened section of the under construction Koralmbahn. In 2010, the tram stop ' Hengsberg ' allows boarding the trains of the S6 towards Graz or Wies- Eibiswald (via Germany Berg).
