Hénin-Beaumont
Henin- Beaumont is a French town in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. With 26,868 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) it is the largest municipality of the Communauté d' agglomà d' Henin- Carvin, a community of interests of French municipalities.
History
The municipality was formed in 1971 from the merger of the places Henin- Liétard and Beaumont -en- Artois, after the coal mining industry in the region ended with the closure of the last mine in October 1970.
Attractions
The church of Saint -Martin, built in 1929-1932 in Greco -Byzantine style by the architect Maurice Boutterin ( 1882-1970 ), replaced an earlier church, which had been in 1917, destroyed during the First World War by the Germans during their retreat. It is classified as a monument historique.
