Henk van den Breemen

Hendrik Gijsbert Bernhard " Henk " van den Breemen ( born March 23, 1941 in Valkenswaard ) is a Dutch retired general. From 1994 to 1998 he was chief of staff of the Dutch armed forces.

Van den Breemen attended from September 1960 to August 1963 the Royal Navy Institute of the Netherlands ( Koninklijk Instituut voor de Marine) and received officer training. In the following years he was promoted several times within the Dutch army. 1975 Major 1981 Lieutenant Colonel in 1987 and 1994, eventually becoming general. In this rank he was four years to 1998, chief of staff and thus the supreme commander of the armed forces of the Netherlands.

Van den Breemen was one of five authors of the 2008 featured Pamphlet entitled " Towards a Grand Strategy for an Uncertain Word; Renewing Transatlantic Partnership". At the font, the German retired General Klaus Naumann was involved as an author. The authors call for a renewed transatlantic partnership and presented her pamphlet in Washington DC, as well as NATO and the EU level.

There currently sits van den Breemen the Advisory Board of Noaber Foundation, which supports small businesses.

Awards and honors

Henk van den Breemen was decorated in several European countries and in the USA with high honors. In the Netherlands, he was awarded the Order of the Netherlands Lion (Ritter ) and the Order of Orange- Nassau ( Commendatore ). In Germany, he was honored with the great Cross of Merit with Star of the shoulder belt. He also received the U.S. Military Medal Legion of Merit in the second highest level ( Commander), the Swedish Order of the North Star, as well as other awards in Norway and the Czech Republic.
