Henk Vonhoff

Henk Vonhoff (full name: Hendrik Johan Lubert Vonhoff; born June 23, 1931 in Amsterdam, † July 25, 2010 in Hilversum ) was a Dutch politician.

Life

Shortly after the end of the Second World War he joined the liberal party VVD founded in 1948.

After ten years as a teacher of History in Amsterdam Vonhoff in 1967 elected to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. In 1971 he became Secretary of State for Culture and Sports. From 1974 to 1980 he was Mayor of Utrecht. He was then to 1996 Officer of the Queen in the province of Groningen. Was offered to him in 1986 to become Defense Minister in the second cabinet of Ruud Lubbers. He refused because Lubbers did not appeal to him that his successor would be as representative of the Queen is also a member of the VVD, and gave preference to Groningen.

Vonhoff was considered a liberal institution with full knowledge of the Dutch constitution and history. Until his death he was an authority in his party. Vonhoff was an honorary member of the VVD.
