Henri Antoine Marie Teissier

Henri Antoine Marie Teissier ( born July 21, 1929 in Lyon, France) is a retired Archbishop of Algiers.

Life

Henri Teissier studied in Morocco classic literature, philosophy at the Sorbonne, at the Institut Catholique de Paris theology at the École nationale des langues de Paris vivantes Arabic Language and Literature at Cairo University and the University of Aix Arabic. He received on 24 March 1955, the ordination to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Algiers.

In 1966 he became director of the Center for Studies of the dioceses in Algeria. He lived since 1948 in Algeria and Algerian citizen in 1966. 1972 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Bishop of Oran. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Algiers, Léon- Etienne Cardinal Duval; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Sante Portalupi, Apostolic Nuncio to Algeria, and the Paderborn Auxiliary Bishop John Brown.

In 1980 he was appointed Koadjutorerzbischof in the Archdiocese of Algiers; 1988 Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Algiers. 2008 was his age-related resignation by Benedict XVI. granted.

Teissier was a member of the Secretariat for relations with non-Christians (1971 ), as vice - president of Caritas International for the Arab Countries ( 1975-1987 ) he was involved in various Islamic-Christian symposia and conferences of the two Christians for Palestine. Teissier was president of the Conference of Bishops of North Africa region 1982 to 2004.
