Henri Bellery-Desfontaines

Henri Jules Ferdinand Bellery - Desfontaines ( born March 20, 1867 in Paris, † October 7, 1909 in Les Petites - Dalles, Normandy ) was a French painter, illustrator, graphic artist and designer of Art Nouveau (French Art Nouveau ).

Life

Henri Bellery - Desfontaines was the son of the deputy head of the Savings Bank Foundation Octave Ferdinand Bellery - Desfontaines (1821-1892) and his wife Pauline Julie Hautefeuille ( 1828-1889 ).

He began in 1882 as a painter in the studio of Pierre -Victor Galland decorator ( 1822-1892 ), who was responsible for the realization of the decorative pattern of the Panthéon.

Between 1890 and 1895 studied Bellery - Desfontaines at the prestigious Paris School of Art under Jules Laurens ( 1825-1901 ). At the Académie, the young artist moved by his great talent for drawing the attention of his teachers, but also the jealousy of some classmates. From 1891 to 1909 he participated regularly in exhibitions such as the Salon des Independants, the Salon de Paris and the Salon d' Automne ( " the Paris Autumn Salon "). In 1900 he won the silver medal at the World Exhibition.

On April 24, 1902, he married in the church of Saint -Honoré- Eylau on Avenue Victor- Hugo in Paris Thérèse Louise Vautrò. From the union two children Paul ( born March 20, 1903) went, and Antoinette (* July 16, 1908 ), out.

Henri Bellery - Desfontaines died at the age of 42 years from the effects of typhoid disease after he was invited by his friend and patron Henri Tissier in Saint -Martin- aux- Buneaux for oyster eating.
