Henri Frankfort

Henri Frankfort ( born February 24, 1897 in Amsterdam, † July 17, 1954 in London) was a Dutch archaeologist, orientalist and Egyptologist.

Henri Frankfort studied history, archeology and Arabic. In 1922, he participated in excavations in Egypt. Then study trips led him in 1922 and in 1924/25 to the Balkans and the Middle East. Between 1925 and 1929 he participated in excavations in Amarna, Abydos and Armant. Between 1929 and 1937 he directed the excavations of the Oriental Institute of Chicago in Mesopotamia, including major Sarginu. 1938 Frankfort began his teaching career that took him until 1954 to Chicago and London. Moreover, it was Henri Frankfort from 1949 to 1954 director of the Warburg Institute, London University. Thanks to his great knowledge in Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology Frankfort was fundamentally involved in the development of comparisons of both course content.
