Henri Moreau de Melen

Henri Moreau de Melen ( born August 20, 1902 in Liege, † 31, 1992) was a Belgian officer and politician.

Life

Moreau de Melen comes from an old noble family from the Liège region. He studied post-school law and graduated with a doctorate from the Doctor of Law. He was a member of the Liège Bar Association when he was drafted into military service in 1940. Captured by German troops, he remained until 1945 in a prisoner of war.

His political career began in 1946 with the election as a member of the Senate, in which he acted as a member of the Parti social chrétien (PSC ) the interests of the District of Liège until 1968.

In 1948 he was appointed by Prime Minister Paul -Henri Spaak as Minister of Justice in his cabinet, where he served until August 1949. In the government of Prime Minister Jean Duvieusart he was from June to August 1950 Secretary of Defense. Disappointed with the outcome of the " Royal Question " gave Moreau de Melen - as a staunch Léopoldiste - his position as Secretary of Defense on to participate as a major in the Belgian Volunteer Corps in the Korean War ( 1950-1953 ).
