Henrik Nicolai Clausen

Henrik Nicolai Clausen ( born April 22, 1793 in Maribo Lolland in Denmark, † March 28, 1877 in Copenhagen) was a Danish theologian and politician.

Life

Clausen 1813 candidate of theology and worked from 1822 to 1874 as a professor of New Testament exegesis and dogmatic theology at the Theological Faculty of the University of Copenhagen. Five times he was the rector of the university.

He was a profoundly influenced by Schleiermacher's theology switching representative of theological rationalism and was especially influential in his exegesis of the Bible on the living in Copenhagen Icelandic theologian Magnús Eiriksson. Soren Kierkegaard, too, was a student at Clausen, although he, in many points quite critical of standing.

In his writing Catholicismens og protest anti Mens Kirkeforfatning, Laere above rite (Copenhagen 1825) Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig replied in 1826 with the counter- signature Kirkens Gienmæle mod Professor of Theology. Dr. H. N. Clausen. Clausen won a legal process against Grundtvig, whose writings by - were placed under censorship - until the abolition in 1837.

From 1840 to 1848 Clausen was a member of the national assembly in Roskilde, whose president he was elected several times. In 1848 he was involved with in the preparation of a proposal for a Constitution of Denmark and even joined in the same year as Minister ( until 1851 ) in the Ministry Adam Wilhelm Moltke November one. 1849-1853 he was a member of the Folketing. From June to August 1854 temporarily and then permanently in December 1854 to the year 1863 Clausen was a member of the county council. Clausen was both opponents of absolutism and of universal suffrage and a follower of Dänentums, Scandinavianism and the Constitutional freedom. A street near the station in Aarhus was named in 1887 after Clausen.
