Henry Ashley

Henry Ashley ( born February 19, 1778 in Winchester, New Hampshire, † January 14, 1829 in Catskill, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Ashley was born during the War of Independence in Winchester. He attended community schools. In 1811 he worked as a clerk ( clerk ) in the Village of Winchester. Ashley was in 1817 working as a Justice of the Peace and later. Than manufacturers of leather in Catskill in Greene County In 1825, he chaired the Tanners ' Association. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group.

In the congressional elections of 1824 for the 19th Congress Ashley was in the eleventh electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles A. Foote on March 4, 1825. Since he gave up for reelection in 1826, he retired after March 3, 1827 from the Congress.

After his time Congress he resumed his former business activities. In 1828 he was president of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Catskill and trustee of the Apprentices' Library. He died on January 14, 1829 in Catskill, and was then buried in the Thomson Street Cemetery.
