Henry Gwiazda

Henry Gwiazda (* 1952 in New Britain / Connecticut ) is an American composer.

Gwiazda played in his youth guitar in a garage band. He studied music at the Eastman School of Music, the Hartt School and at the University of Cincinnati. Until 1998, he worked as a music professor at Minnesota State University Moorhead in Cincinnati.

Since 1986 he has composed works for samplers, tape and electric guitar, the live performances at the festival New Music America in New York, New Langton Arts in San Francisco. the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Stedelijte Museum in Amsterdam, the Apollohuis in Eindhoven, De Unie in Rotterdam, and the Cirque Diver experienced in Liege. He was, inter alia, awarded the First Prize of the SUC Student Composers Competition, a Diverse Visions Grant and prices of the Jerome Foundation, the McKnight Foundation, the Barlow Foundation and the Bush Foundation.

With buzzingreynold'sdreamland and thefLuteintheworLdthefLuteistheworld he created in 1994/95 two works in which virtual space effects are produced through two speakers (virtual audio). In his compositions Gwiazda works with both methods of collage as well as with natural sounds.
