Henry Meiggs

Henry Meiggs (* July 7, 1811 in Catskill, New York, † September 30, 1877 in Lima) was an American entrepreneur and fraudulent financial juggler. He was known as the founder of Meiggsville - today's Mendocino.

After several attempts to earn his living with timber trade in New York City, Meiggs went during the Gold Rush to San Francisco and began in 1849 to trade in real estate, especially in today's historic harbor area ( Meiggs Wharf and Fishermans Wharf ). In 1854 he went to South America and built railways in Peru and neighboring countries, most notably the Transandino of Valparaiso in Chile to Argentina.

The court's explanation of its obscure real estate transactions took more than a hundred years.
