Henry Nicoll

Henry Nicoll ( born October 23, 1812 in New York City; † November 28, 1879 ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Nicoll was born about four months after the outbreak of the British - American War in New York City and grew up there. He graduated in 1830 from Columbia College (now Columbia University). Nicoll studied law and began after the receipt of his admission to practice as a solicitor City 1835 in New York. In 1847 he took part in the Constitutional Convention of New York as a delegate. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1846 he was in the third electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William S. Miller on March 4, 1847. He retired after March 3, 1849 from the Congress. Then he took his work as a lawyer again. He died on November 28, 1879 in New York City and was buried in the family cemetery in Mastic.
