Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland

Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland, (* February 3, 1392 or 1394, † May 22, 1455 ) was the son of Henry Percy, and his wife Elizabeth de Mortimer, daughter of Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March and Philippa Plantagenet, 5th Countess of Ulster.

Life

In 1416 he was back from Henry V of England in honor of old; he received the estate of his paternal grandfather, Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland, and his earldom back. He was loyal to his death on August 31, 1422 Henry V. against apparently. He was succeeded his year-old son Henry VI. from to England. In the first years of the new reign Percy was a member of the Government Council. Later Percy was involved in the Wars of the Roses, which took him to a difficult situation. He owed his loyalty to the house of Lancaster, however, was the first cousin of Anne Mortimer and a relative of her son Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York and head of the House of York. On May 22, 1455 he fought on the side of Lancaster in the first battle of St. Albans, which was the first battle of the Wars of the Roses, and in which he fell.

Marriage and children

Percy married Lady Eleanor Neville, daughter of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, and his second wife Joan Beaufort. Under Lady Eleanor's siblings were Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and Cecily Neville, mother of Edward IV and Richard III.

They had ten children, among others:

  • Sir Ralph Percy ( died on April 25, 1464 at the Battle of Hedgeley Moor ).
