Henry VI, Count of Gorizia

Henry VI. of Gorizia (* 1376, † 1454) was Count of Gorizia and imperial prince of the race of Meinhardiner. He also led the titles and offices of Count of Kirchberg, a Count Palatine of Carinthia, the governor of Belluno and Feltre and a Governor of Carniola.

Biographical

Henry's parents were Count Meinhard VI. and Utehild of Mätsch. In 1385, Henry succeeded his father as Count of Gorizia after. Since he was an " incorrigible drunk and a gambler ", the county experienced a rapid decline. The ruler of the Habsburg dynasty ended with a contract of inheritance of the land of Gorizia. This increased the discord in the Duchy of Bavaria and in the Republic of Venice. Henry of Gorizia was with Elizabeth, daughter of Duke Leopold of Austria, engaged, but he was married first to Elizabeth († 1426), a daughter of Count Herman II of Celje, and it subsequently with Catharina of Gara, a subsidiary of Hungarian palatine Nicholas of Gara. After his brother Johann Meinhard VII of Gorizia and Kirchberg 's death in 1430 he inherited the county of Kirchberg.

Henry of Gorizia was considered a " boorish blank and drinkers " who was a " rugged opponent," his second wife Catharina, as these tended politically to the Habsburgs, while he himself was a follower of the Counts of Cilli.
