Henze Boekhout

Henze Boekhout ( born February 2, 1947 in Haarlem, Netherlands) is a Dutch artist and photographer. Since 2002 he is a lecturer at the School of Arts in Utrecht.

Life and work

Boekhout developed a self-taught artist for photo. He devoted himself initially travel photography, but returned after reports on Morocco and Japan against it. In the late 1970s he built his own 30x40 camera to access to basic ideas about photography. He took some photo reliefs part in the Photographia Buffa and developed in the same time a form of photography that in his book "Seconds First" (1993 ) reflected. As inspiration at this time it 's early work by Luigi Ghirri, the New English sculpture and photographic works of Constantin Brancusi served.

Boekhout resulted from different, mostly public contracts, so in 1994 for the Frans Hals Museum, for the Spaarnestad archive a series about Haarlem on the occasion of the 750th anniversary and 2003 Photo Architecture book about the " Nieuwe Toneelschuur ," the new drama House of Haarlem. He makes monumental Applied Photography of Architecture. An impressive example of this is the glass wall, Crimescope ' of 2.5 x17 m for the entrance hall of the new Forensic Institute in Ypenburg the Architects: Claus and Kaan. His works have been shown in various group and solo exhibitions. Most recently, he published (2007) a book about New York artist with an almost three meters long Leporello, which is now found in some major libraries in Europe and the United States. The work of Boekhout occupies a special place in the Dutch photography.
