Hepatomegaly
Hepatomegaly is the medical term for an abnormal enlargement of the liver (Greek hepar). He referred to himself not a disease but an examination findings, which must be interpreted in conjunction with other findings.
A hepatomegaly can have many different causes:
- Inflammatory conditions: viral infections (such as hepatitis or mononucleosis ), alcoholic hepatitis,
- Autoimmune diseases,
- Congestion by heart failure (heart failure ),
- Fatty liver ( steatosis ), for example, after many years of alcohol abuse, in the context of diabetes (diabetes mellitus), with overeating or other chronic liver damage,
- Benign and malignant tumors,
- Leukemias, since often associated with liver and spleen ( hepatosplenomegaly )
- Parasites (eg Tripartite dog tapeworm, malaria )
- Symptom of disease in gastroenterology
